Let's talk about how Wi-Fi 5 technology has revolutionized and how Wi-Fi currently operates in today's world.
Since its inception, wireless technology, particularly WiFi, has continued to advance with the introduction of more complex standards. Wifi 4 was the highest WiFi standard offered a few years ago. However, when WiFi 5 was released, it started gaining popularity in overseas markets.
The fifth generation of wireless networking technologies, known as WiFi 5 or IEEE 802.11ac, uses the 5GHz band frequency to deliver high throughput in wireless local area networks (LANs). When WiFi 5 was introduced in 2014, it improved WiFi 4 in a number of ways. Although a remarkable innovation, WiFi 5 has advantages and disadvantages.
There are various pros of WiFi 5. Wireless data transmission in WiFi 5 occurs on the less congested 5GHz band frequency. Besides, WiFi 5 has better performance and efficient speed modulation than its predecessor. WiFi 5 boasts a theoretical maximum attainable connection speed of 6.9 Gbps. In WiFi 5, there is increased channel width with more advanced MU-MiMO technology allowing more significant amounts of data from up to 4 users to be effectively transferred.
WiFi 5, the 5th generation of WiFi, rolled out with Wave 1 certification in mid-2013. However, it also has some drawbacks as well. Signals cover a shorter distance due to the 5GHz band. Backward compatibility might be an issue as devices operating with 2.4 GHz may not work well with the 5GHz WiFi 5. Lastly, the initial cost of installing it can be high.
However, if you set cost and backward compatibility aside, WiFi 5 can effectively cover areas with WiFi connections that are relatively wide-ranging and not too large.
What do you think about the evolution that happened due to Wi-Fi 5? Let us know in the reply section down below.
